Starting in 1978 with his Oscar-nominated short film, An Encounter with Faces, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has won countless awards over the years for his innovative work as director, screenwriter and producer.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra was born and grew up in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. After compltion the study at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune, he directed first ever short film 'Murder At Monkey Hill' which won the National Award.
Then in 1978, he made a short documentary 'An Encounter with Faces', which was nominated for the Academy Awards in 1979, and also won the Grand Prix at the Tampere International Short Film Festival (1980).
His first solo production under his company, Vinod Chopra Films, was 'Munna Bhai M.B.B.S'. The script of this film was written by him along with Abijat Joshi and was directed by Rajkumar Hirani, proved a hit, most popular, and successful films in Indian cinema. Rest is the history.
